Job Description In our group, we are investigating the role of inflammatory signaling pathways (e.g. cytokines and chemokines) and cellular mechanisms responsible for the induction and maintenance of chronic inflammation, finally leading to tissue destruction and cancer (e.g. chronic hepatitis induced liver cancer). We offer innovative research projects in a young, international, dynamic and highly interdisciplinary research environment with excellently equipped facilities. Moreover, we are maintaining close collaborations and regular exchange of scientists with laboratories in Europe and the U.S.

The work will include gain and loss-of-function studies by conditional gene targeting approach in mice, state-of –the-art cell biological and immunological techniques including protein biochemistry, expression analysis (protein, RNA, immunohistochemistry), FACS analysis, adoptive cell transfers, microsurgical techniques, molecular biology and in vivo two-photon imaging.

The Ph.D. position is for the duration of a minimum of 3 years and is funded by an ERC Starting Grant.
Qualification We are looking for extremely motivated candidates with excellent education and enthusiasm for basic research with relevance for human disease. Prerequisite for a successful application for a PhD student is a master degree (equivalent to a German diploma and accepted by a German University) in the field of biology, biochemistry, biotechnology or pharmacy. The candidate should be motivated, hard working, a team player, open for new challenges, and not too shy to ask questions in order to integrate him- or herself into our team. The successful applicant should speak fluent English and should be familiar with most of the standard procedures in Molecular Biology. Obtained experience with conditional knockout technology and mouse as model organism would be highly appreciated but is not required.
