Job Description The ‘stem-cell theory’ of ageing posits that the functional decline in adult stem cells is one of the factors contributing to ageing. Importantly, the number of stem cells does not diminish with age in many tissues but rather there are intrinsic and extrinsic changes that affect their functionality. Is it possible to reverse these changes? Experiments in several model organisms, including the flatworm Macrostomum lignano, suggest that this is indeed the case. We are developing M. lignano as a model organism to address these and other questions for research on stem cells, regeneration and ageing. To extend our ongoing efforts, we are looking for experimental and computational biology postdoctoral researchers.
Qualification Highly motivated postdoctoral fellows with a proven track record of previous research accomplishments are encouraged to apply. An experimentalist must have training in molecular biology and genetics; knowledge of the stem cell or ageing research fields is a plus. A computational biologist must have experience with the analysis of high-throughput sequencing datasets in application to genome assembly and annotation, gene expression analysis or comparative genomics.
How to Apply Please send a letter of motivation, CV and the names of three references to Eugene Berezikov (e.berezikov@umcg.nl)
