| Job Description | A Postdoctoral position funded by an ERC Grant is available in the ‘Bacterial Cytoskeleton and Bacterial Cell Morphogenesis’ lab headed by Dr. Rut Carballido-López (http://www.micalis.fr/micalis_eng/Poles-and-teams/Pole-Biosys/FICP-Noirot/Group-3-Carballido-Lopez) for a project in Bacterial Cell Morphogenesis. How is cell shape determined in bacteria? How do bacterial cells perceive and regulate their size and shape? Our research project combines powerful genetic, biochemical, genomic and systems biology approaches available in model bacteria with modern high-resolution light microscopic techniques to study the dynamics and mechanistic details of the two major determinants of cell shape in bacteria: the actin-like MreB cytoskeleton and cell wall assembly
The postdoc will help to implement and use automated microscopy-based screens. The proposed project has a triple objective: (i) screen genomic libraries to reveal new morphogenetic determinants; (ii) screen mutants of known cytoskeletal proteins to get insight into their functions; and (iii) screen a library of compounds to reveal potential inhibitors of these key cellular processes. Construction of the mutant libraries to use in the screens will also be part of the project. The development of high-throughput screening procedures will require automation of mutant library construction, automation of microscopic image acquisition and implementation of image analysis tools for cell morphology discrimination . We are a well-funded lab with international character that offers a dynamic and open atmosphere in which collaborations and initiative are welcomed. Our working language is English |
| Qualification | We are seeking a highly motivated and dynamic postdoctoral fellow with a PhD and experience in relevant subject areas demonstrated by peer-reviewed first author publications. Postdoctoral experience would be appreciated but it is not an absolute prerequisite. Expertise in image analysis and a solid knowledge in molecular biology are essential. Experience with microscopy techniques and/or notions in programming would also be appreciated. Motivated and inventive, the candidate will be willing to share his knowledge and interact in a collaborative spirit. |
