| Job Description | A Postdoctoral position funded by an ERC Grant is available in the ‘Bacterial Cytoskeleton and Bacterial Cell Morphogenesis’ lab headed by Dr. Rut Carballido-López (http://www.micalis.fr/micalis_eng/Poles-and-teams/Pole-Biosys/FICP-Noirot/Group-3-Carballido-Lopez) for a project in Bacterial Cell Morphogenesis. How is cell shape determined in bacteria? How do bacterial cells perceive and regulate their size and shape? Our research project combines powerful genetic, biochemical, genomic and systems biology approaches available in the model bacterium Bacillus subtilis with modern high-resolution light microscopic techniques to study the dynamics and mechanistic details of the two major determinants of cell shape in bacteria: the actin-like MreB cytoskeleton and cell wall assembly.
The postdoc will further develop a recently acquired high-resolution fluorescence microscopy system. (S)He will adjust and/or implement several state-of-the-art modules such as FRAP, TIRF and a microfluidic system to study bacterial processes at the subcellular level in real time, as well as automated microscopy-based screens. The postdoc will also adapt and/or develop image analysis tools allowing computer-assisted parallel analysis of the growth of hundreds of individually isolated bacterial cells. We are a well-funded lab with international character that offers a dynamic and open atmosphere in which collaborations and initiative are welcomed. Our working language is English. |
| Qualification | We are looking for a highly motivated, dynamic and well-adjusted postdoctoral fellow with a PhD (and previous postdoctoral experience if possible) in relevant disciplines and experience in imaging techniques demonstrated by a strong track-record of publications in peer-reviewed journals. The successful candidate should have a strong background in biophysics, image processing/computing, single-molecule analysis, or similar. Experience in software development is considered a real advantage. Ability and commitment to working with colleagues to a common objective is essential. The candidate must demonstrate initiative, creativity and a high grade of independence, and have good communication skills in English. |
