Job Description SPECIFICATION, GROWTH AND PATTERNING OF Drosophila VISUAL ORGANS.
4-year PhD fellowship in the CASARES laboratory at the CABD, Seville (SPAIN). Award expected by the end of 2012. Available as from Summer 2013.

We are looking for a highly motivated PhD student with an interest in organ patterning, gene regulatory networks and evolution. The research project will aim at deciphering the gene regulatory network that specifies and patterns the ocelli, simple eyes that are part of the fly’s visual system, used as a model of more complex eyes. The successful candidate will use a broad range of techniques, including genetics, genomics, quantitative imaging and modeling, and Drosophila melanogaster and other dipterans will be the experimental systems. She/he will work in close collaboration with experimentalists as well as mathematical modelers. The host laboratory has extensive experience using Drosophila as a model system and provides access to state-of-the-art scientific infrastructure. The successful candidate is expected to hold a degree in Biology, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Chemistry, Physics or a related area and to be proficient in English. The fellowship runs for 4 years.
