Postdoc position (TV-L E13)

A main focus of our lab is to study the pathophysiological signifcance of thyroid hormone transporters by analysing the respective mouse mutants. We are particularly interested to determine which thyroid hormone transporters are essential for proper brain development and function.

Our previous studies have revealed that the thyroid hormone transporter Mct8 plays a critical role in the uptake of the thyroid hormone T3 into the brain. However, compared to patients with
inactivating MCT8 mutations who suffer from a severe form of psychomotor retardation, MCT8 knockout mice exhibit a rather mild phenotype indicating that additional thyroid hormone transporters
must be present.

Studies in our lab are ongoing to define the role of other thyroid hormone transporters in mediating neuronal and glial thyroid hormone uptake. For this purpose, we are generating conditional knockout mutants that are going to be extensively phenotypically characterized, both in vivo as well as in vitro by applying primary cell culture systems.

The position (funded by DFG) is available immediately.
Qualification For these studies we are seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral candidate with a genuine interest in neurobiological/endocrinological questions, scientific background and technical expertise in molecular and cell biology and - ideally - with experience in working with mice.
